Made Whole Conference

About the Conference

This conference was made to empower the church with a complete vision of healing and equip people to engage with their healing process. The goal was to show the scope of how people break and how they can come together and become whole again.

My contribution to this project

High Point Church asked me to create a logo and design guide for all promotions which included: a handout, website, social media, signage, name tags, and powerpoint templates for the speakers.

Meaning and theme of the logo design:

The vase in the logo is a piece of pottery fixed together with the art of kintsugi. Kintsugi, in short, is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections, and how your history can make you beautiful.

Sketches

For this project in particular, I focused my exploration around visual representations of the purpose of this conference. A common thread through my sketching here was a focus on hands, as they signify trustworthiness, protection, help, and creation, and the above mentioned inspiration fo the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which fit in well with being "Made Whole" once again after facing trauma and hardship.  I did play a little bit with plants and growth, as you can see a little bit in the sketch on the right, but in the end we went with a more central idea with minimal elements.

Why these fonts?

Deganire Headline

I wanted to find a headline font that would look clean in both print and digital media, be easy to read both on big and small scales, and which had line weight variation that paired nicely with the icon design above. This font quickly became a favorite of mine, and is now heavily present in my own projects.

Avenir Next Condensed

This font is a friendly sans serif, easy to read, and had many variations that I could use within print and digital media. This font also reflects the mono-width lines in the logo icon for this conference and pairs very nicely with Deganire Headline.

What did I do with these graphics?

Additional graphics

The client then asked me to create the graphics template for their next sermon series in the same style, this one called "Healing and Jesus", which ran from the date of the conference until Easter of that year. On Easter, they hosted a pancake breakfast, which was equally delicious AND fit the graphics theme.
